Drink Driving Cases Being Thrown Out Of Court Because Of Confusion Over Handcuffs When Arresting Suspects

Rank and file Gardaí say drink driving cases are being thrown out of court because of confusion over the use of handcuffs when arresting suspects.

The Garda Representative Association wants Commissioner Drew Harris to urgently issue officers with clear protocols on when they can and cannot use handcuffs.

They say the lack of clarity is leading to judges striking out serious cases.

The issue will be debated at the GRA's Annual Conference in Killarney today.
