Fine Gael attempts to calm backbenchers

Elsewhere the Finance Minister's predicting it'll be a "long time" before a new leader of Fine Gael is elected.

Last night Enda Kenny stood firm and indicated he will not be standing aside as leader in the coming weeks. 

However the two contenders - Leo Varadkar and Simon Coveney - have been attempting to calm backbenchers who want the Taoiseach to depart within days. 

Speaking to reporters in Dublin this morning, Minister Michael Noonan suggested there will not be a change of leader in the coming weeks:
