Five people rescued from the sea off Youghal after losing control of their sailing dinghies

A Coast Guard helicopter, local RNLI lifeboat and an Irish Lights vessel joined a search after three o'clock yesterday afternoon.

Four of the five people were teenagers.

Three of the the casualties were found clinging to their boat after half an hour in the water by the lifeboat crew.

Mark Nolan from Youghal RNLI station says that's when the rescue crew found out there were two more teens in the water:

"They became aware of a second boat approximately half a mile away, that had capsized also, who was traveling with this first boat. They immediately then went to the second boat, located second boat and two teenagers in the water. They rescued all five, otherwise all five would not be here."
