Gardaí investigating discovery of guns in White's Cross hoping find could help them solve cold case murders

The revolver and semi-automatic pistol were discovered by a member of the public on Wednesday.

Detectives from Watercourse Road attended the scene at Ballycollie Road at around 5pm on Wednesday.

It's understood the guns were uncovered during digging work and were later discovered by members of the public.

A technical exam was conducted and a search of the area was carried out by members of the Divisional Search Team and the Dog Unit.

The Sun reports investigating Gardaí are keen to see if analysis of the guns can help them solve one of several cold-case murders in Cork.

Real IRA member Aidan O'Driscoll was shot and killed by two gunmen in Blackpool in December 2016 on his way home from work.

Three men were convicted of impeding the apprehension or prosecution of his killers, however the two gunmen have never been identified.

Eric Cumming was also shot dead outside his home in Ballincollig one night in August 2005

A lone gunman approached the 29 year old and shot him in front of his partner and young son.

The paper says Cummins was believed to be involved in the drugs trade and was known to Gardaí.

No arrests have been made over Wednesday's discovery and investigations are ongoing.
