Group Opposed To Flood Relief Plan For Blackpool Say OPW Should Go Back To Drawing Board
The Save Our Bride Otters campaign group were responding to calls from the OPW Minister for opponents of the scheme to reconsider their position
Minister Patrick O'Donovan says around 300 homes and businesses in Blackpool will benefit from the scheme.
The OPW say the plan was designed by local, national and international experts and does consider the impact of the scheme on local wildlife.
Speaking to RedFM News, Minister Patrick O'Donovan says action must be taken to protect Blackpool:
"We would ask those people who are objecting, many of whom are probably not living in fear of flooding, many of whom can go to bed at night and don't have to worry about a river bursting it's banks, flowing through their back door, to ask themselves, is it right that the people of Blackpool have to live in that fear? Without insurance. Elderly people who don't know whether they're going to have to be lifted out by the fire brigade. Is it fair that they might have to wait years more for the delivery of this scheme?"
