HSE says no patient received potentially contaminated chemotherapy after it issued a recall

The treatment was recalled after it was found that a manufacturing machine was contaminated

The HSE says  no patient received potentially contaminated chemotherapy after it issued a recall last Monday.

A particular treatment was recalled after it was found that a manufacturing machine was contaminated with bacteria
It was used in the treatment of cancer patients during the period October 2-9 only.

Oncologists throughout the country contacted the 200 patients concerned including patients at the South Infirmary Victoria Hospital and Bantry General hospital

The bacteria, which can cause serious gastrointestinal infections was discovered during routine testing.

Cancer patients are at particular risk of becoming ill, as their immune systems are low.

The HSE again apologised to all of the patients and their families for the distress the incident had caused.
