Public Symposium on flooding to be held in UCC

A public symposium on the proposed flood defence plans for Cork city is being held at UCC this afternoon by the Save Cork City group.
The group held a demonstration on Sullivans Quay at the weekend calling for the proposed OPW €140m flood scheme to be scrapped as they have concerns about its impact on the city's heritage.
The deadline for engagement with the Office of Public Work’s on the Flood Relief scheme is February 17 and the group wants to raise awareness and encourage people to oppose the scheme.
The group claims that the scheme may also contribute to further flooding if it goes ahead.
However speaking to RedFM News Minister with Responsibility for the OPW Sean Canney says he believes the scheme is the best way to ensure that Cork can be made flood proof.
