Rent Pressure Zones Set To Be Replaced With New System At End Of The Year
The Department of Housing is working on proposals that would change the way individual landlords are treated
The current rent pressure zones see rent rises capped at 4 per cent in those areas, however housing charity Threshold claims the system in Cork is not working as rents have risen by 6% in the city since last year.
Threshold in Cork have already urged the Government to re-imagine the countRy's rent regulation before the end of the year as rents need to be reduced and stabilised across the city and county.
Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien says he will be tweaking the system:
"I think there's a good opportunity for us now in our country to bring about a more stable environment for the rented sector, for tenants and indeed for the Mom-And-Pop landlords that are out there as well. So those measures, the RPZs expire at the end of this year, and I'm looking at what we can do to replace them and to improve upon them."
