West Cork Student Has Won $50,000 At Annual Science Competition Run By Google 

18 year old Fionn Ferreira from Ballydehob was announced as the overall global winner at the event at Google's international headquarters in California. 

Fionn's project "An investigation into the removal of microplastics from water using ferrofluids" proposes a novel way to filter microplastics from water using magnets. 

Fionn sat his leaving cert at Schull Community College last month and is due to attend university in the Netherlands in September.
