Public health expert says testing criteria at walk-in centres should be expanded to catch more Covid cases

Gerry Killeen, a professor at University College Cork, says the pop-up centres may be helping to lower case numbers.

He said they would be more effective if they were not limited to testing people without Covid symptoms.

"This criteria where you must be asymptomatic doesn't match the epidemiology of what we know, but COVID, and also, it doesn't match what we know about passive and active surveillance systems work in practice. And, you know, the more open the door is the better these things are going to work and they were absolutely critical in the success in Australia."
