Tourism Industry Hoping To Bounce Back With Both Staycations and Day-Trips This Summer

Those in the hospitality sector say they have been taking bookings and fielding calls from domestic holiday-makers about Summer 2021 and say it's vital they're open in time for the season

The Government is yet to announce a date for the reopening of the hospitality sector and calls are being made for a roadmap to allow those in the industry to prepare.

Speaking to RedFM News General Manager of the Celtic Ross Hotel, Neil Grant, says day-trips benefitted everyone in the locality and were as beneficial as staycations, and played a huge part in the sector's recovery:

"The number of day-trippers that we had that came to the Lagoon Activity Park there, the big inflatable slides and things, the number of people that were booking a table after they'd been there, and we opened our function room because there was no weddings. We opened our function room as a pop up restaurant, and to give us extra capacity. So that was full every lunchtime for, you know, the duration of July and  August. A big bit of that was people coming on a day trip from Cork city or whatever, or from around the county to go and do the different activities."
