Taoiseach hopeful of trialling fans at sporting events in July

The Taoiseach says he hopes to trial fans’ return to sport in July.

Elite sporting events across the country have played out behind closed doors since March of last year.

However Micheal Martin has raised hopes that fans could be back in stands for this summer’s All Ireland Championships.

"I think you're probably looking at July. Government is looking at plans now and over the next number of weeks towards that end.

"We're also learning lessons from what's happening in the UK and what's happening in other jurisdictions to see how we can get fans back in a safe way."

Meanwhile non-playing panel members will be allowed to attend inter-county matches this year.

Last year’s Championships had seen playing squads capped at 26.

But Minister for Sport Jack Chambers has confirmed that players not involved in a matchday squad will be allowed inside the stadium for all inter-county games.
