Pick of the Week: Carrie Baxter - I Wan't Looking For You - Green on Red

Hey GreenOnRedHeads!

Conor here – My Green On Red ‘Pick of the Week’ is from one of Ireland’s fastest rising stars, Carrie Baxter.

A native of Waterford City, Carrie moved to London from a young age to pursue a career in Musical Theatre. Having honed her skills and developed her instrument Carrie has been steadily collaborating with musicians, producers and DJ’s proving her versatility and appeal across a wide-array of genres! Carrie’s latest song ‘I Wasn’t Looking For You’ which features Jack Tyson Charles, is a vocal triumph for the singer’s elegant, effortless, unique tones. Carrie is of her time and fabulously demonstrates her far-ranging musical influences as she bends the pitch, tone and punctuation of her delivery to bring about a dreamy sound that hints at other genres, giving the listener a cosy feeling of familiarity while remaining totally original and true to herself and her talents.

I would also like to acknowledge Carrie’s lyric writing, which is playful, fun and littered with word-play, her turn of phrase is exceptional, meaning repeat plays offer something new with each listen. Since beginning my journey with Green On Red and getting to grips with all the fantastic Irish music that’s being produced – one thing I’m struck by is the community feel that exists currently in the Irish music landscape and it is very heartening given the year we’ve had – but particularly the uncertainty that musicians, songwriters, artists of all descriptions have come through and amazingly are seemingly stronger for! I would like to acknowledge the stalwarts of Irish radio and championers of our vast depths of music for putting me onto Carrie Baxter – those being Cork’s Red FM’s Stevie G and WLR FM’s Ray Colclough – as well as her PR team at Amplify, headed up by Sheena Madden, who have been a huge help and massive supporters of me personally since starting with Cork’s Red FM

I hope to grow a community on Green On Red, Sundays from 7pm, with the hope that there will be a well-wishing army of Irish music supporters in Cork and beyond to greet our music-makers with the enthusiasm and excitement that their music deserves, once we get back into a live-music venue (soon!!). Catch Carrie Baxter Ft. Jack Tyson Charles, ‘I Wasn’t Looking For You’, across Cork’s Red FM before Green On Red this Sunday night!

Carrie says: "Just as I had struggled to allow myself to be immersed in the happiness of love with the person in question, I also struggled to allow this song out the door without some sort of attitude, which was when I wrote the line, ‘guess Im kinda happy you came’. I love this line, it reminds me of how strong I am as a woman in a partnership and how much more I still have to learn.”
