John from UCC and military historian Gerry White are both authors of The Battle for Cork The Burning of Cork respectively and both were involved in assisting the presenting of a new exhibition – open now – at St Peter’s North Main Street on the ‘battle for Cork’ of 1922 as seen through the lens of WD Hogan. WD being a famous photographer at the time.
It tells of an episode of Ireland’s civil war that saw the free state army drive the anti-treaty IRA out of Cork following an amphibious landing at Passage West and a fierce series of gun battles through Rochestown and Garyduff woods.
