1 In 2 People Will Get A Cancer Diagnosis In Their Lifetime

This is one of the harsh realities expected to be discussed at Ireland's first National Oncology Symposium which is being held at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

The symposium will hear from Irish and international cancer care experts who say that the incidence of cancer is growing and by 2020 and if the rate continues, 1 in 2 people could get a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.

In Ireland an average of 40,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed each year with skin, lung and breast cancers among the most common in this country.

Speaking to RedFM News Dr Brian Bird, lead oncologist at the Bon Secours in Cork, says that cancer remains the second biggest killer in Ireland
