18 Year Old Cyclist Killed In West Cork
Sad news tonight in West Cork.
A 19 year old man has suffered fatal injuries in an accident on the N71 road between Rosscarbery and Connonagh. The accident happened happened shortly before 7pm.
The collision occured between the bike and a passing car at Barley Hill.
Efforts were made by paramedics to save the young man at the scene but after suffering multiple injuries he was pronounced dead at the scene before being transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH). The driver of the car is being treated for shock but was uninjured.
The 19 year old is understood to be from the West Cork area.
Gardaí have since closed the road and diversions have been put in place for an examination of the area by investigators. All motorists are encouraged to avoid the area while the investigation is underway. Gardai are also seeking anyone who may witnessed the accident to contact them.
Weather conditions are not thought to be a factor in this tragic accident as conditions were described as cold but clear.
