36 Year Old Man Arrested Following Raid On The Northside Of Cork City Early This Morning

The raid comes after Gardaí became aware of a large number of homeless people being supplied with a high potency "Polish poteen" in the city centre
The alcohol was being sold for about €13 in 500ml bottles labelled 'Irish Spring Water' and Gardaí say up to 240 litres of the poteen were being sold on the streets of Cork every week..
Listeners contacted the Neil Prendeville Show when they noticed homeless people collecting what appears to be their social services card from a man outside the GPO on Oliver Plunkett Street before entering the post office to collect their payments. Eyewitnesses observed them leave the GPO and hand over their money and card to the man.
Gardaí have confirmed that they identified a suspect - a non national aged 36 years - and arrested him this morning in connection with the sale of poteen and a quantity of alcohol was also seized consistent with the investigation.
