40,000 pensioners across Cork will be €5 richer today
Pensioners are to receive additional €5 as increase in state pension comes into effect
Age Action Ireland have welcomed the increase, the first in 7 years, but say the Government needs to deliver on its pre-election promise of a €25 euro increase to the weekly pension.
The group says senior citizens living in the city and county are paying the price due to continued cuts to essential services, and are calling for an increase to the fuel allowance, as well as the re-instatement of the telephone allowance.
Spekaing to RedFM News spokesman for Age Action Justin Moran says the Government needs to do more for it's Senior Citizens.
