422 Adults Were Living In Emergency Accommodation In Cork In July

The latest homelessness figures represent a 30% increase compared to the same time last year.
The figures also show that 890 men, women and children were living in emergency accommodation in Cork and Kerry, an increase of 7% in 12 months.
Nationwide the number of people in emergency accommodation rose to 10,275 in July. That breaks down to 3,778 children and 6,497 adults.
The figures follow the revelation that up to 20 people are living in a tented village on a green area close to the city centre.
Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy says the government is doing everything it can to get people out of homelessness.
But Roughan McNamara, spokesperson for Focus Ireland, says not enough is being done to tackle the crisis:
