50% Increase In Number Of Injuries Suffered By Prison Officers Dealing With Non-Compliant Prisoners

15 staff were injured in Cork Prison last year, an increase of 6 from 2017.
The figures have been released under the Freedom of Information Act show and show that the number of cases increased from 91 in 2017 to 137 in 2018.
The Prison Officers Association says overcrowding is contributing to a rise in the number of assaults on staff.
Deputy General Secretary of the POA, Jim Mitchell says he's disappointed rather than surprised by the figures:
