56,000 Remain Off The Grid Across Cork This Evening

Extra ESB crews have been drafted in from around the country to Cork along with the defence forces as 56,000 customers remain off the power grid this afternoon

Crews have been working from 6.30 in the morning until at least 10 o'clock every night since Storm Ophelia struck hard on Monday.

Customers affected by large outages can expect to see reconnections over the next two days but the ESB say trees that have been dislodged by the weather are continuing to hamper the repair operation.

However despite these issues the ESB hope that the last of the isolated customers off the grid could be brought back on by Sunday or Monday. 

Denis Cambridge of the ESB told RedFM News that the conditions are very challenging as trees are continuing to come down:
