Fishmonger Pat O'Connell met the Duke when he accompanied the Queen on a tour of the English market on an official visit to Ireland in 2011
Prince Philip died earlier today at the age of 99.
He had been married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years.
Philip was just two months away from his 100th birthday in June and had retired from his public role in 2017.
In 2011 he accompanied the Queen on a State Visit to Ireland during which they spent some time in Cork.
Speaking to RedFM News, English Market fishmonger Pat O'Connell, reflected on his encounter with the Prince and his love of food
"I thought they were quite ordinary people, they have got a great sense of humour and we just took it from there really. And it just led one conversation into the other and they were very easy going. A man that was very interested in the food and the variety and quality of food that was available and was so impressed by it al'"
