A decryption key has been made available to Irish authorities that may help restore HSE's computer systems

The ransomware gang behind the cyber attack has provided the key, but the government says it's still assessing if it's genuine.

However, it says it's an 'encouraging development', but it reiterates it won't pay any ransom to the criminal gang.

Technology Correspondent Jess Kelly says despite the breakthrough there is still a risk information will appear on the dark web:

"If it does work if it's found to be legitimate, that is not the end of this saga, however. It will take a long time to repair the damage that has been done, but also it's worth noting that the hackers involved in this case, could still go ahead and upload the data they now have to the dark web, which could cause many headaches for some time to come."
