A Major Increase In Cases Of Influenza Is Expected In The Coming Weeks In Cork

Management at Cork University Hospital say they have been exceptionally busy in recent days with almost 1,400 patients presenting in the first week of the year.
The hospital say the increase is partly due to the number of patients presenting with flu symptoms.
As a result visiting restrictions have being put in place at the hospital.
Hospital management have requested that, where appropriate, the public contact their GP in the first instance and explore all other options available to them prior to attending the Emergency Department if their needs are not urgent.
It's understood two people have been hospitalised with the swine flu at the CUH, however speaking to RedFM News Influenza lead for Cork and Kerry Community Healthcare Jennie Synott says a spike in flu cases at this time of year is not unusual:
