A new charity in memory of a young Cork girl has been launched today

'The Heart Angel' was set up by Irene O'Connor whose 9 year old daughter Béibhinn died in September last year after a routine procedure following open heart surgery triggered a cardiac arrest

Irene launched the charity with the aim of creating an Angel Garden in every county in Ireland to commemorate the lives of children who have passed away.

The first Angel Garden is planned for Carrigaline and a second garden will be created in the city next year.

Speaking to RedFM News, Irene says a memory book given to her and her husband after Béibhinn's death was part of the inspiration for the charity:

"Béibhinn was probably the kindest and most beautiful inside and out soul you could meet. I know I'm biased because I'm her mom but after she passed we just received oceans and oceans of letters telling us what Béibhinn did for their children.

"So, it appeared that Béibhinn was friends with everybody in the class and she was always kind, and as we flip through this memory book every single page from her friends, the one word that kept coming up was Béibhinn was always kind, and Béibhinn was never mean.

"Béibhinn was hilariously funny and a prankster so this was her personality."
