A new Lord Mayor will be appointed to Cork city tonight

Under the mayoral pact, Fianna Fail Councillor Tony Fitzgerald is to assume the role at the City Council's annual meeting

He will become the party's first Lord Mayor since 2014 and is a popular choice in his native Knocknaheeny.

He takes over the role from Cllr Des Cahill who conferred the Freedom of the City on Ronan O'Gara while he held the office of Lord Mayor over the last year

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM the outgoing Lord Mayor outlined his highlights of his year in office.
