A quarter of a million commuters could be affected by strike action

250,000 commuters are bracing themselves for public transport chaos next month as strike action looms at Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus. Bus Eireann says the work stoppages could cost up to 5 million euro and have described it as a huge loss and is calling on the unions to enter into further talks to try and hammer out a solution. Seven days of industrial action next month have been announced by the NBRU and SIPTU, over proposals to privatise some routes on the network. General Secretary of the National Bus and Railworkers Union Dermot O'Leary wants action from the Minister for Transport, after Paschal Donohoe yesterday called for the strike to be called off.
