A technical glitch is believed to be behind outages that affected a number of major websites today
Some media outlets, the UK government and Amazon, are among the organisations affected
Some of the sites have already come back online.
Cloud computing firm Fastly says it is fixing an issue.
Professor at the School of Computer Science in UCC, Barry O'Sullivan, says the issue can be resolved relatively quickly:
"Obviously there can be cyber attacks, this is not a cyber attack. It seems this is just a good old fashioned glitch at the server at this company and that can be resolved quite quickly. I believe that this was identified a few hours ago around 10am this morning, they started working on it immediately and had a patch installed within the hour"
