Abode site in Mahon will not be new library

The City Council have confirmed the former Abode site in Mahon will not be developed into a library.

The now vacant site on Skehard Road is to be sold following demolition of the former charity building last week.

No time frame was given for the potential sale, but the Evening Echo reports that city chiefs are keen to see the site used, in order to prevent anti-social behaviour in the area.

Members of the local drugs task force cleared away more than thirty needles and other drug paraphernalia from the building in March.

However the council say the site has now been fully cleared and secured from any unauthorised entry.
