Activists paint over name of "Victoria" on Cork streets

An Act of Civil Disobedience.


That's how activists - who painted over the name Victoria on a number of Cork's street signs -  have described their action

The Cork Street Names Campaign say they want the names of the streets around the city changed to honor local and national hero's, instead of British aristocrats.

They say removing Victoria's name is necessary in order to pay respect to the memory of Irish people who were starved and dispossessed under her reign.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM activist Diarmaid Ó Cadhla says they will continue their campaign across the city:
