Actor Alan Rickman has died

The actor found a fresh legion of fans playing Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films


Alan Rickman has died in London aged 69 - his family say he'd been suffering from cancer.

The actor found a fresh legion of fans playing Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films. 

He played a number of other memorable baddies alongside Bruce Willis in Die Hard and Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

But the role he'll be best remembered for in Ireland was his portrayal of Eamon de Valera in the 1996 movie Michael Collins:
