Additional student accommodation granted at Events Centre site

Planning permission was granted by Cork City Council following an appeal made by BAM Property in September

More than 400 additional bed spaces has been allocated at the site of the events centre.

BAM made an appeal last September calling for the reduction of office and shop space in favour of student accommodation.

The additional accommodation has been earmarked for the northern end of the site nearest to Washington street.

The Irish Examiner reports the firm briefed city councillors this week on the changes it wishes to make to the €65 million project.

BAM contractors outlined that the scale of the project needs to be increased in order for the Events Centre to work.

It remains uncertain as to when work will commence at the site as the firm must submit a fresh planning application to the council.
