Air traffic controllers from Dublin remotely controlling Cork Flights

Flights landing and taking off at Cork Airport are being remotely controlled by air traffic controllers in Dublin.


The Irish Aviation Authority have been trialling a new air-traffic system in Cork and Shannon to create a new virtual control tower at Dublin Airport.

The system uses new remote technology and allows operators in Dublin to view conditions in Cork airport to direct planes landing and taking off during off - peak times.

Speaking on RedFM's Neil Prendeville show Airline Consultant at Cranfield University Dr. Frankie O'Connor says the system is used to reduce costs and pilot error:
