Alcohol Action calls for restraint during 12 pubs tradition

Fears have been expressed ahead of the modern tradition of the 12 Pubs which normally gets underway at the start of December.

The 12 Pubs will see bars full of people having one drink in the first pub before moving on to 11 more and having a drink in each one..

The tradition has led to calls for restraint from Alcohol Action Ireland who say drinking to excess should not play such a pivotal role in Christmas Celebrations.

The group says Christmas can be a challenging time for socialising without alcohol but people should watch their consumption over the next few weeks..

Speaking to RedFM News Conor Cullen from Alcohol Action Ireland says it's important to remember that three people die every day from alcohol related illnesses
