Almost 300 Meet To Oppose Controversial M28

Almost 300 people turned out at a public meeting last evening where the next steps in the campaign against the controversial M28 were outlined.

The motorway was given the green light by An Bord Pleanála in recent weeks however concerns have been expressed by residents living in the vicinity of the planned infrastructure that their quality of life will deteriorate with increased noise and air pollution as well as traffic congestion.

There was overwhelming support in the room for the campaign to progress to judicial review stage.

However it's a battle against time for opponents of the motorway as funding must be raised to proceed to that stage.

Cork Chamber says the new motorway plan is needed as 4,000 trucks will be using the route everyday when Port of Cork operations are moved to Ringaskiddy.

However speaking to RedFM News Ger Harrington of the M28 Steering Group says they believe they have a strong legal argument against the plans which will impact severely on local residents:
