Almost 700 West Cork Residents Were At Risk Of Consuming Potentially Infected Water For Up To 5 Months

That's according to an audit by the Environmental Protection Agency
The audit found that the ultra-violet disinfection system used to kill bacteria at the Ballymakeera water treatment plant near Ballvourney was switched off on the 27th of February last year.
The report also says that a lack of communication within Irish Water meant the full extent of the deficiency in the disinfection system was not discovered until the summer drought in July 2018.
Tests on the water in July were clear, however Irish Water acknowledged that the supply had been at risk of Cryptosporidium
