An iconic landmark in the city will light up the night in the coming weeks

It's part of conservation plans.

Preservation works is to get underway at the Berwick Fountain on the Grand Parade.

The revamp which begins next month includes the installment of LED lights allowing the fountain to light up at night for the first time in years.

According to a report in the Irish Examiner, the 10 week conservation works also involves cleaning, treatment and renovations of the stone work.

The famous fountain dates back to 1860 and was erected by Walter Berwick as a token to the people of Cork.
