Cllr Danielle Twomey discovered that if she is off work for more than six months to mind her baby, then she would be barred from serving on the local authority as it would be deemed that she had resigned..

The Maternity Protection Act states that a woman whether self-employed or employed is entited to 18 weeks paid maternity leave, however as Cllr Twomey is an elected public representative and not a Council employeee she is not entitled to maternity leave from the local authority...
