A petition to boycott Irish Water, signed by 22,000 people, is to be presented to the Lord Mayor at City Hall today.

A petition to boycott Irish Water signed by 22,000 people is to be presented to the Lord Mayor at City Hall this morning.

It comes after former Lord Mayor Cllr Mary Shields refused to accept the petition in June on behalf of the office of the Lord Mayor as she said it urged people to break the law.

Protesters branded the move a snub and are now set to resubmit the petition which has gained  an extra 7,000 signatures since its initial rejection in the summer.

A demonstration in the capital and in the city centre in the last month attracted hundreds of campaigners from Cork and speaking to RedFM News these protesters say the petition is representative of how Leesiders feel about the charge:
