Anti-water charges protests continue Leeside

It follows a number of protests taking place around the city to prevent the installation of water meters.

Grattan Street residents are gearing up to stage a protest against the installation of water meters in the area.

Notice was given to residents this week of the arrival of Irish Water staff and a meeting was organised last night where anti-water charge posters were distributed.

It comes as day two of a peacful protest continues in Curraheen Housing Estate where residents have pledged to physically block Irish Water access to the estate should they attempt to enter.

Elsewhere residents in a Watergrasshill housing estate have organised a rota system to watch out for the arrival of Irish Water staff.

Gardaí were called to Ard Cashel estate yesterday as residents stood over the stop-cock valves in the estate preventing Irish Water staff from carrying out metering however they say no one has arrived today.

Speaking to RedFM News these anti-water charges campaigners in Curraheen say resistance to Irish Water and the fee is growing Leeside.
