Archaeologists make significant discovery along the proposed Macroom bypass route

Archaeologists have discovered 30 previously unknown ancient sites along the proposed Macroom bypass route.

The sites, which include a Bronze Age ring fort, were discovered along the road's 22km route between Macroom and Ballyvourney.

The Irish Examiner reports that excavations are expected to be completed by the end of next year.

The results of the archaeological excavations along the Macroom-Ballyvourney route will be published by Transport Infrastructure Ireland once completed.
