Ballyphehane protest concludes

Protesters say they will return tomorrow morning from first light to ensure attempts to meter their homes doesn't continue.

A stand off between Irish Water staff and residents in two Cork housing estates has concluded.

Gardaí were called this morning to estates on Pearse Road in Ballyphehane and in St Ann's park in Turner's Cross where residents blocked access to the stop-cock valves outside their properties.

Up to 50 protesters assembled on Pearse Road where both gardaí maintained a presence for most of the afternoon.

The campaigners say they'll return tomorrow morning from first light to ensure attempt to meter their homes doesn't continue.
