Ballyphehane water protest concludes

Tensions eased after Irish Water agreed to cover over three holes they dug outside properties they were attempting to meter. 

The DPP has directed that Socialist TD Paul Murphy be tried in front of a judge and jury on charges of falsely imprisoning the Tánaiste and her adviser.

Joan Burton and Karen O’Connell were allegedly trapped in their car for several hours following a graduation ceremony in Jobstown in Dublin last November.

It comes as a protest in a Ballyphehane housing estate concluded in the last hour. 

Irish Water workers were blocked from carrying out works in Clareville Estate when residents and anti-water charges campaigners mounted a protest shortly after half nine this morning.

Over a dozen gardaí attended the scene however tensions eased somewhat when Irish Water workers covered over three holes they dug outside properties they were attempting to meter. 

Residents say they'll be keeping watch tomorrow morning and are prepared to mount another protest if the utility returns.
