Bandon Flood Relief Scheme moves forward

A spate of properties in the town suffered storm damage over the winter months.

The Bandon Flood Relief Scheme has been officially confirmed.

It's understood that the Acting Minister for the Office of Public Works Simon Harris and the acting Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin have reached agreement which will allow the scheme to progress to the next stage.

The scheme includes the alleviation of flooding areas around the town, the underpinning of the Bandon Bridge and surface water drainage.

Up to 30 properties suffered storm damage in the town following the winter storms with people expressing concerns over the delay in the scheme as well as difficulties accessing flood insurance.

Speaking to RedFM news, Jer Buckley from the National Flood Forum says the government need to tackle the insurance industry.
