BE A REBEL, SLEEP OUT FOR FOCUS IRELAND

Focus Ireland urges people to sign up for the BIG REBEL SLEEP OUT to help fight against homelessness in Cork

Focus Ireland has teamed up with Cork City FC and calls for Corkonians to sign up to take part in the BIG REBEL SLEEP OUT on Saturday, 13 April to raise vital funds to help tackle homelessness in Cork.

Focus Ireland works with families and individuals who are homeless or in danger of losing their homes across the county of Cork and throughout Ireland. They also provide 39 homes in Cork for households who were previously homeless or at risk.

The BIG REBEL SLEEP OUT takes place at Cork City FC training ground at Bishopstown, Curraheen, Cork City. This fundraising initiative is an opportunity for anyone interested in helping work towards ending homelessness in Cork to participate in an awareness building and income creating event. To sign up, contact Dick White on 086 8223690 or dick.white@focusireland.ie

As the homeless crisis deepens both locally and nationally, Focus Ireland said this is a call to action for everyone to play a part and really help make a difference.

Speaking on the launch, Ger Spillane, Regional Manager of Focus Ireland said: “Focus Ireland is working every day here in Cork to prevent families becoming homeless while also helping households who are homeless to find a place to call home. This is the way we will make long-term progress but we need help to raise funds for our work. With almost 10,000 men, women and children experiencing homelessness across Ireland, including 349 adults in Cork City and County, Focus Ireland needs your support.”

Paul Wycherley General Manager of Cork City FC added: “We are very happy to support this event with Focus Ireland. The rebels here in Cork can lead the challenge of homelessness and we urge the people of Cork, its men, women and children, to participate.”

Speaking of the event, Dick White of Focus Ireland said: “It is great that Cork City FC has teamed up with us and this is going to be a really memorable event for anyone who signs up to take part.  Each person who signs up will be playing their own vital part in helping work towards ending homelessness in Cork.

“We always stress that 89 cent of every euro received by Focus Ireland is spent directly on services to support people who are homeless and those at risk. We have to raise 50% of our annual budget through donations and events like this to ensure we can support over 15,500 people every year around Ireland.”

He concluded: “It is clear that without this type of support we would be unable to deliver our services here in Cork. That is why your support and participation in Big Rebel Sleep Out is vital.”

Participants will receive support materials and advice to help with fundraising in the lead up to the event and on the night.
