Blood board lift ban on bisexual and gay men donating blood

The ban was lifted earlier this week and has been welcomed by members of the LGBT community
The sexual orientation of blood donors is no longer an issue in Ireland.
It comes as the Blood Board this week, lifted the ban on gay and bisexual men giving blood.
Health Minister Simon Harris welcomed the news saying the IBTS provides all the necessary programmes and procedures to protect both donors and recipients of blood.
The new measures mean that gay and bisexual men have to wait one year before being able to donate blood after their last sexual contact.
Speaking to RedFM News Dave Roche from the Cork Gay Project says this measure sends a positive message to the LGBT community in Ireland.
