The Irish Blood Transfusion Service says its been difficult to maintain blood supplies in Cork over the winter months.
Blood stocks in Cork are at low levels and the IBTS is appealing to past and present donors to make an extra effort to donate this month.
No surgical procedure can go ahead in the hospitals across Cork unless there is enough blood available for transfusions.
Speaking to RedFM News Ann O'Donovan of the IBTS says this winter has been very challenging.
