Blood Transfusion Service struggle to meet demand
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service has warned they're currently grappling with a blood shortage.
The service, which usually holds a 7 day supply, says the recent flooding and ice is having an impact on their service, resulting in fewer people being able to get to donation clinics.
Blood supplies naturally become low during the Festive period as people are out of their routines but the IBTS say they are now struggling to maintain a fresh supply of blood
Donors are being urged to make a special effort to donate over the next fortnight and bring a new donor with them if possible.
Speaking to RedFM News Ann O'Donovan of the IBTS in Cork is reminding donors that one donation has the potential to save three lives.
