Bonfire Night project hailed a success
Five main events were in Farranree, Mayfield, Knocknaheeny, Mahon and Togher
The Bonfire Night project has been hailed a success after thousands took part in event last night.
Cork City Fire Brigade had double its members on standby but they say with the exception of a few isolated incidents involving blazes and fireworks, the night passed off peacefully.
The five main events which were hosted in Farranree, Mayfield, Knocknaheeny, Mahon and Togher also involved bouncy castles, sports, face-painting, circus workshops, zorbing and music.
The initiative was developed by the City Council with the support of gardaí, emergency services and community groups in a bid to stop illegal bonfires which have traditionally made the night one of the busiest nights of the year for the fire services.
