Boy (3) injured in West Cork crash

Gardai in West Cork have appealed for witnesses to a road traffic accident in which a three-year old boy was seriously injured. It's understood the little boy was playing with his two older sisters outside their home at around 6.30pm when he was struck by a car on the main Clonakilty to Timoleague Road near Lislevane. It's believed the toddler was carried for some distance by the car and locals helped free him from the vehicle when the emergency services arrived. The child, who is Hungarian but whose family has been living in Courtmacsherry for some time, was seriously injured and was taken by air ambulance to Crumlin Children's Hospital for treatment. His two sisters, who were uninjured in the collision, were treated for shock. The driver of the car, a local woman in her late 20s, was also treated for shock. Gardai closed off the road to allow a forensic crash investigator examine the scene while the car was also removed to be examined by a PSV inspector. Gardai in Bandon have appealed to anyone who may have travelled the road shortly before the accident or witnessed the collision to contact them on 023 8852200.
